Two Dead, Two Wounded in Connected Stabbing Spree Near Boston, Suspect Shot by Police

Two people were stabbed at a Mall in Taunton, Massachusetts – a city about 39 miles south of Boston – and a further two more victims were also stabbed by the same suspect Tuesday at a home nearby, PEOPLE has learned.

According to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police, two of those victims have died from their wounds. The suspect, who was shot by police, has also died.

"The suspect's motive remains under investigation but at this point we are aware of no nexus to terrorism," the release continued. "There is no continuing threat to the public."

The first event happened at a Taunton home, located on Myricks Street, where the suspect stabbed two people. Around the time of the stabbing, there was also a crash on the street the home is on, which the suspect may have been involved in, CBS Boston reports.

The second incident reportedly occurred at the Silver City Galleria shopping mall at around 7 p.m. after the suspect ran his vehicle into the storefront of Macy's. After the crash, the suspect left his car and stabbed two people at the mall, according to CBS Boston.

An off-duty sheriff's deputy reportedly shot and killed the suspect who has yet to be identified.

The Taunton Police Department also sent out an update via Facebook, alerting the public that their department was working with the state police at two different crime scenes, both of which had been secured and proved "no immediate threats to the surrounding areas."
