A murder investigation has been launched after a woman's body has been found on a private estate known Britain's Beverley Hills.

The body of the woman, aged in her 30s, was discovered at a residential property in St George's Hill, Weybridge, Surrey.

Surrey Police officers were called to the location by South East Coast Ambulance Service just after 10am this morning.

A man in his 30s was also found at the address with serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Previous residents of the 420-home estate include include John Lennon, Tom Jones, Elton John, Cliff Richard, Jenson Button, Sue Barker, John Terry, Ringo Starr and Bobby Davro.

Other former home owners include Russian oil tycoons, hedge fund bosses, former Chelsea player Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and the Chief Exec of BSkyB Jeremy Darroch.

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Taylor, from Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "The investigation into this tragic incident is still in the very early stages but at this time I believe this to be an isolated incident, with no wider threat to the local community.

"Formal identification has not yet taken place but officers believe they know the identity of the woman and the injured man. Next of kin has been informed and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time."

St Georges Hill is a 964-acre luxury private estate which has golf and tennis clubs, and more than 400 homes.

In 2007, roads in the estate showed an average house price of more than £3,000,000 in the previous 12 months.

The St George's Hill residents association looks after the estate roads and verges.

The association said in 1911, Surrey master builder W. G. Tarrant bought 964 acres of land on St George's Hill, Weybridge, from the Egerton family.

He then "set about planning his ideal residential estate, where wealthy professionals and captains of industry could enjoy peace and privacy in surroundings of natural beauty".

On its website the association states: "The ‘Hill’ is a distinctive and unique location designed for driven, motivated and successful high achievers who are looking for a secure and private location in understated and tranquil surroundings.

"The Hill is a place that provides an escape from the busy lives of its discerning residents.

"It is, quite simply, a nice place to live."

It is understood that musician Cliff Richards lived in St George's Hill up until 2006 after he purchased a home on the estate for £1.5m in 1987.
