Distraught family of pensioner stabbed 39 times after minor car accident tell mentally ill killer's family: 'Your son is safe and out of harm's way... all we have is memories of dad'

Donald Lock (right, with wife Maureen) was stabbed 39 times in a frenzied road rage attack by Matthew Daley, whose father had warned the NHS that his mental health was slipping out of control.

Daley (top left) was today cleared of murder for the brutal knifing on the A24 in West Sussex, but found guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Outside court (bottom left), Mr Lock's son Andrew - who stood beside the pensioner's widow, Maureen - said his father was simply 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'.

Police released footage of Daley (bottom left) coolly describing the moment he killed the 79-year-old, who was driving home from a cycling meeting when he was attacked after a minor crash.
