Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool 'lost shape' in Europa League final defeat to Sevilla

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said his players "lost faith" after Sevilla equalised only seconds into the second half on their way to victory in the Europa League final.

Klopp's side took the lead through Daniel Sturridge and also saw a Dejan Lovren header disallowed as they went in at half-time with a 1-0 advantage.

But that lasted for only 17 seconds of the second half as Kevin Gameiro turned in a Mariano Ferreira cross before two more goals from Coke won the trophy for Sevilla for a third season in succession.

Klopp told BT Sport: "The start I was not happy with, but then we scored a wonderful goal and had a disallowed goal.

"The first [Sevilla] goal is not a problem -- what happened after that is the problem. We lost faith completely in our style of play, we lost shape and we were nervous in defence.

"That shows that our development is not as good as we hoped. We have to carry on and use this experience, and I am sure we will be strong, but it is disappointment and frustration tonight."

He said he felt Liverpool "could not reach our level" against Sevilla and added: "The goals were too easy.

"In this moment, I am responsible for this performance. There is no criticism and I have spoken to my players. I thought we could change it, but it was not enough."

Klopp said the defeat, which ended Liverpool's hopes of reaching next season's Champions League, would give them the chance to "use the time in training to get better."

"I promise everybody we will use it and come back stronger," he added. "It [the performance] was 50-60 percent of our usual quality, and we have to accept that. We will come back."
