What happened to the demure dress code? Ladies arrive for first day at Aintree - but few are sticking to Chanel-inspired style guide

It's the second year running that a sophisticated Chanel-inspired dress code has been in place, but efforts to smarten up standards at Aintree today seem to have produced mixed results. The low-cut dresses, tight fitting skirts, bare legs and platform shoes that have become a Grand National staple in recent years were still out in force with one racegoer bravely opting for a slashed to the naval jumpsuit that was also completely backless (second from left).

Others stood out in eye-wateringly bright shades of orange (left) and pink (second from right). One woman ensured she stood out in a baby pink mini dress with white applique hearts (right), while a fellow spectator sexed things up in a gingham mini and over the knee socks (second right).
