Sir Tom Jones's wife of 59 years - who he described as 'the love of my life' - dies in LA hospital with the singer by her bedside after a 'short but fierce battle with cancer

Lady Melinda Rose Woodward, better known as Linda, passed away with her husband of 59 years at her side yesterday morning at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

News of the 75-year-old's death comes just a week after Sir Tom pulled out of a gig in Manila, the Philippines, due to a 'serious illness' in his immediate family, although his management denied it was Linda who was unwell.

The childhood sweethearts met aged 12 in Sir Tom's home town of Pontypridd and married when they were both just 16.

They had one child together, Mark, 59, who now works as Sir Tom's manager.

The singer (pictured left with his wife in 2014, centre with her at their home in 1967, and right and inset on holiday with her in the 1960s) famously claimed he had bedded 250 women in one year at the height of his career, but despite his self-confessed adultery, remained devoted to his wife, calling his marriage 'rock-solid' and said 'all the rest was fun and games'
