Mentesh Mouharrem, 19, lost control of his black Renault Clio on a country road near the village of Broad Oak in Kent before crashing into the tree, killing front passenger Emily Laker (right). Mouharrem (left, outside court) admitted causing death by careless driving and was handed a suspended sentence after his solicitor told a judge of his 'extreme remorse and regret'.
But days later he wrote a callous message to a friend dismissing the accident, saying 's*** happens' (inset) and suggesting his girlfriend was better off dead.
